Animation Project

Using digital art technology as therapy and for workforce development
4 cars

A WellMet grant allowed us to bring our programming to a population that would otherwise not get the chance to experience 3D Computer Animation.

The Animation Project targets at-risk youth ages 12-24, using digital art technology as a therapeutic medium and a workforce development tool. Our 2015 WellMet grant of $20,000 will be used to increase current programming at Brooklyn’s Crossroads Juvenile Detention Center from one meeting to three weekly sessions.

"The Animation Project's team at Crossroads over the past year has been fortunate to witness many participants benefit from the 3D computer animation therapy group. Many participants are behind academic standards for their age, and yet in TAP Animation Group they learn professional software they would otherwise not have access to. This, in turn, instills a sense of pride and excitement while allowing participants to consider new workforce opportunities. One participant, whose career goal was to become a janitor, stated that he didn't realize a career in computer animation was a possibility. TAP supported this young man and allowed him to recognize that just as animated films can have alternate endings, so too could his own own life story."
