NEW YORK WOMEN’S EMPLOYMENT CENTER (AKA WOMENS‘ CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT) served women who lost their jobs in the Great Recession and who did not have skills for gaining new employment. It offered three programs: job-readiness, career group support and self-sufficiency. Our grant went for general operating expenses.
In 2012, of the 120 women served, over half found jobs within six months. The founder has been chosen to receive a 2013 leadership award from The Women’s Foundation.
